Okay, so I ported the Flare3 animation system over, and it was a pretty clean port, mainly variable name changes.
the core of the animation system is a far better improvement over the method Flare3 used, which is, it uses conceptual sheets of animation vs actual physical sheets of frames.
while in some cases a packed sheet of frames would be more performant you cant guarentee that the entire sheet will fit within the texture size.
so i made an animation of a spinning key, and sent the lot over to david.
as always he was good at learning by example and soon made a spinning/bouncing beach ball animation.
so as far as animation goes, that's all she wrote.
