Devlog #7 - A Switch!?

This might be my shortest devlog but guys, I’m switching both my game’s engine and art style.

So I said that I’d be developing Harvest Fall in C++ on top of raylib but a few days ago, I started actual development work on Harvest Fall. Guess what, nothing happened. Well, maybe not absolutely “nothing”, a window got created with color and a title but when I tried loading sprites and textures there was a problem. The files did not get loaded due to some unknown error.

I tried out Unreal Engine, or I tried to try out Unreal Engine. I wanted to try out Unreal Engine and went to the Epic Games Store to install but it didn’t work and the page just froze. I was still determined and so I tried building the engine from source. Nothing worked.

I looked for engines/libraries such as CryEngine and OpenGL/SDL, but they didn’t work either. I moved on from C++ and went to Unity and C#-- didn’t work either!

This isn’t the first time, before I started writing devlogs I always kept switching languages like Python, C#, C, Java, etc and engines like Unity, GDevelop, Buildbox, Godot and more. I think the problem is that I’m either too indecisive or there’s always that one weird and unknown error that seems to pop up out of nowhere.

I believe that mentioning all these changes “jinxes” me so this will be the last time I’ll mention switching, probably…

Next, the artstyle, I want the game to be 2D but at the same time I also want it to be 3D so now I’ll be going for an isometric kind of style where 2D sprites could be viewed from a 3D perspective.

All that matters is that this game comes out for you guys to check out and I think you guys will love it!

Thanks for reading and see you in the next one!
